
Unfortunately as with most 1990s games 2D graphics don't scale with high resolutions, so they can be difficult to read on small high res displays. Optionally the video folder as well for cinematics. It might work by simply throwing it into Steam's Quake2 folder, but I'd create a new Quake2 folder, unzip the zip into it, replace the exe with the one I modified, and copy over the pak files from Steam baseq2 (found in \SteamLibrary\steamapps\common) to the new baseq2 folder. This is a modification of the original Quake2.exe (smaller than Steam's or GOG's) from You can change the resolution using the gl_mode variable in the console (for example press the ~ key then enter say gl_mode 5), or via the menu.

Windowed mode will only render correctly at high res if you check the 'overide high DPI display scaling' checkbox (right click Quake2.exe, select compatability to find it, thanks Consumerist!)

When I launch Quake it's still in 240p.Press alt-enter to toggle windowed/fullscreen. The solution to the mouse problem worked, but the resolution didn't.

If you have windows 10, I would strongly suggest an engine port. However, I have heard that forcing a custom resolution causes Vanilla GLQuake to crash if your rig runs on Windows 10. The option for 1920x1080 should then be set in the steam client, which works in a steam client generated shortcut too. Then type "-width 1920 -height 1080 -bpp32" (without the quotes) in the text field Right click on Quake in the Steam Library and select You can enable the command line in the steam client.
